Summer Readin'

In my ongoing bid to get motivated to get in shape (ongoing since 1979) I picked up a couple of books hoping to be inspired. The first one was Moose: A Memoir of Fat Camp. I scarfed it down like a box of Oreos. For anyone who has ever been on a diet, especially as a kid, it’s a must-read. I laughed, I cried, I couldn’t put it down.

Then I read I Was Told There’d Be Cake. While there was nothing about cake, the dating anecdotes struck a chord with me. The Cake book didn’t inspire me, but it did amuse. Caca Seca and I spend countless hours pondering the man possibilities. Are we too set in our independent ways to settle down? Are we too finicky? Are our deal-breakers too stringent? I’d like to think that the answer to all three questions is No. Bellona of Avalon mused recently about the state of dating in this age (at this age?). Are we singletons left with the losers? Gads, I hope not.

The last book is Slow Fat Triathlete. I saw the title and got it since I fit two of the three words in the title. Jayne Williams makes the triathlon sound do-able for anyone. All I have to do is get of the couch and jump in a pool, jump on a bike or run through the park. I recently found out that a girl from middle school is one of the top triathletes internationally. Wow. The friend who told me this has also competed in a number of triathlons. When I mentioned the book and getting in shape to him, he pointed out that it’s a long-term investment that requires patience. Another reminder that there’s a journey involved and I need to focus on the process and learn to enjoy it.

In, at...yup. Both of those prepositions work. And J still hasn't called. I do remain hopeful, and I haven't the faintest of ideas why, that since I am a choice female, a few choice males must be left amongst the losers out there. At least there's a one hour block of SatC tonight!

LindaCO found a good one, so there's some hope! Where on earth is J and why isn't he calling? Have you bumped into him again?

Haven't bumped into him. Although I have considered ambling the downtown streets at night and looking for a vehicle with Utah plates. But that would feel a little like stalking. Brookings is a small town and if he's in the area, we're bound to bump into each other sooner or later. Unless of course, he's run back to Utah to the (not?) ex-wife. What I'm worried about is whether I've completely lost my ability to judge when some guy is definitely interested. Or not.
